Main duties of the job
You will be expected to
work within all clinical areas within the Emergency department and show
a commitment to developing yourself and others within the team .
You will be required to attend and complete mandatory
training online and face to face .
In addition to this the department offers a
comprehensive induction programme and role specific training

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

- Assessment
of patients of all ages attending the Emergency Department, SDEC
- Planning
and delivery of nursing care that reflects current patient care needs.
- Evaluation
of care in collaboration with patient / carers and multidisciplinary team.
- Involved
in the care of trauma patients and resuscitation of critically unwell patients.
- Accurate
documentation of nursing care delivered.
- Be a safe
practitioner aware of own limitations and reporting any areas of concern to a
more senior nurse.
- Work effectively
as part of a team.
- Awareness
of and co-operating in maintaining Accident and Emergency health care targets
in the best interest of the patient.
- Participate
in teaching / training of more junior staff.
- Follow
policy and procedure accurately for Safeguarding both children and adults
- Ongoing
development of skills and knowledge to become a competent Emergency Department
nurse.
- To use
electronic systems e.g. EPR safely and as per departmental policy
- To
appropriately escalate when care standard is thought to be below par
- To
participate in ED specific training e.g. decontamination training.
