Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest to join our
forward-thinking team.

On-Call Rota: Participate in a 1 in 11 non-resident on-call

Main duties of the job
In addition to the clinical responsibilities outlined above,
there will be opportunities for professional development, including involvement
in simulation training and leadership roles. The roles will also require
collaboration with neighbouring tertiary centres and participation in regional
networks.
Within County Durham and Darlington Foundation Trust,
Clinical Care Groups are in place, with Obstetrics and Gynaecology being part
of the Family Health Care Group.
The department delivers acute services across
Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH) and University Hospital North Durham (UHND),
as well as outpatient services at Bishop Auckland Hospital (BAH),
Chester-le-Street (CLS) and Shotley Bridge community hospitals. Day case
surgical procedures are also carried out at BAH.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

This is a
replacement post, with on-call commitments based at the DMH site, though the role
may involve elective work at other Trust sites.
Provide
specialist care to patients at DMH and across the Trust, in line with areas of
expertise.
Support
the delivery of regular gynaecology and antenatal clinics.
Participate
in gynaecology theatre lists, with procedures tailored to your level of
experience.
Take part
in elective caesarean section lists.
Attend
Evidence-Based Guidelines meetings, contributing to the review and updating of
clinical guidelines.
Undertake
clinical shifts as directed by the Clinical Director for Obstetrics and
Gynaecology, including participation in on-call, out-of-hours, and weekend
rotas.
Conduct
regular clinical reviews of patients in collaboration with doctors in training,
ensuring that patient records (including discharge summaries) are accurately
updated following each review.
Provide
clinical management of patients referred to outpatient services.
Collaborate
with patients, families, colleagues, midwifery staff, support staff, and
external agencies to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
Take a
leadership and mentoring role for resident doctors in and other departmental
staff.
Provide
cover for colleagues during annual leave and short-term sickness.
Education/Training
Share
responsibility with other consultants for the clinical supervision of resident
medical staff.
Participate
in teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties as required, and contribute
to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance activities.
Participation
in Trust-wide programmes, including mandatory learning
Audit and Research
Contribute
to departmental research efforts in alignment with the Trusts R&D
framework.
Participate
in the Trust's Audit Programme.
Engage in
continuous professional development and ensure eligibility for relevant

Sessional
