We are looking for a payroll professional to join us as a Payroll and Pension Advisor, who can bring subject knowledge and experience to our team. Our Payroll and Pension team provides a comprehensive Payroll, Pensions, Expenses service to the Trust and its subsidiary company. Main duties of the job

As a Payroll and Pension Advisor, you will support the delivery of monthly and weekly payroll and pensions service to the Trust and its subsidiary company, CDD Services. The role involves maintaining employee assignments for pay related changes, interpretation and application of terms and conditions and industry regulations related to pay and pensions. You will be involved in the completion of the payroll processing and submission of statutory information. The postholder will also supervise and train other team members

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

To interpret and apply information from NHS Employers, HMRC and NHS Pensions whilst adhering to Trust policy and procedure.

Authorise calculations for Pension Benefits

Process statutory and non-statutory deductions as required by local and national demands.

Process documentation for pay related changes and events

Responsible for ensuring overpayments are calculated and recovery arrangments implemented

  • Worked within a busy team facing competing demands and pressures
  • IT Literacy essentially Microsoft Office and industry recognised Payroll software
  • Delivering high standard Customer Care
  • Worked to strict processing deadlines

Desirable

  • Experience of working in NHS payroll or pensions or financial services sector. Using professional responsibilities ESR to process payroll

Special Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of payroll procedures, payroll legislation, and statutory legislation affecting Payroll
  • ability to interpret and apply employer policies and procedures affecting pay
  • Can demonstrate excellent knowledge of pension auto enrolment and operating occupational pension schemes.
  • Good organisational skills, enabling speed and accuracy.
  • Excellent understanding of terms and conditions related to pay and how to interpret
  • Can demonstrate good working knowledge of industry recognised Payroll software
  • Ability to be self-motivated and agile and contribute to problem solving
  • Possess good communication skills and able to constructively challenge
  • Ability to empathise and negotiate and communicate complex and sensitive information
  • Ability to recognise when further support is necessary from Payroll Team Leader to deal with difficult situations
  • Ability to adapt to and deliver changes
  • Ability to constantly work well whilst under pressure of essential deadlines and changing workloads
