Main duties of the job
Post 1 Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a
special interest in High-Risk Pregnancy
This is a new post to support and develop antenatal
services. Elective work will include
specialist antenatal clinics, fetal scan sessions and participation in elective
caesarean section lists. Gynaecology clinics/theatre sessions will depend on
skills and further development needs for the post holder.
Post 2 Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with a
special interest in a Gynaecology area
This is a replacement post.
Desirable ATSMs include subfertility, oncology, benign abdominal
surgery, or hysteroscopy. The job plan
will be tailored to the successful applicants special interest area.
Non-emergency duties will include gynaecology clinics, theatre sessions,
antenatal clinics, and, occasionally, supporting elective caesarean section
lists.
Applicants must be fully registered with the
GMC, hold a licence to practise, and be on the Specialist Register (or within 6
months of entry) by the date of interview. We are open to considering part-time
applicants, with an adjusted Job Plan tailored to suit the successful
candidate.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Provide
specialist care to patients at UHND and across the Trust, in line with areas of
expertise
Support
the delivery of regular gynaecology and antenatal clinics.
Participate
in gynaecology theatre lists, with procedures tailored to your level of
experience.
Take part
in elective caesarean section lists.
Attend
Evidence-Based Guidelines meetings, contributing to the review and updating of
clinical guidelines.
Undertake
clinical shifts as directed by the Clinical Director for Obstetrics and
Gynaecology, including participation in on-call, out-of-hours, and weekend
rotas.
Conduct
regular clinical reviews of patients in collaboration with doctors in training,
ensuring that patient records (including discharge summaries) are accurately
updated following each review.
Provide
clinical management of patients referred to outpatient services.
Collaborate
with patients, families, colleagues, midwifery staff, support staff, and
external agencies to ensure coordinated, multidisciplinary care.
Take a
leadership and mentoring role for doctors in training and other department
staff.
Provide
cover for colleagues during annual leave and short-term sickness.
Education/Training
Share
responsibility with other consultants for the clinical supervision of junior
medical staff.
Participate
in teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties as required, and contribute
to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance activities.
Participation
in Trust-wide programmes, including mandatory learning
Audit and Research
Contribute
to departmental research efforts in alignment with the Trusts R&D
framework.

Engage in

- Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree.
