Job summary

Are you a dedicated and compassionate nurse looking to join a dynamic and supportive healthcare team? We are seeking an enthusiastic Band 5 Nurse to join our Day Surgery Unit, where youll play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients undergoing elective and day case procedures.

As a Day Surgery Nurse, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing care for patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. Youll work closely with a multidisciplinary team, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity at every stage of their journey. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include pre-operative admission, post-operative care, and patient discharge planning.This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop a wide range of clinical skills in a fast-paced and varied environment. We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to all applicable Health and Safety and COSHH regulations

Assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care

Specialised area: Provide experienced nursing care and support to patients during the pre and post-operative phases of surgery/procedures, including nurse-led clinics. The postholder must be competent in assessing the efficacy of the patients progress through the day surgery pathway.

Is responsible for decision to discharge patients from hospital within agreed protocols (nurse led discharge)

Carry out all relevant forms of care, supervising junior members of staff and delegating duties as appropriate

Act as a Supervisor/assessor to student nurses and other learners, providing guidance and supervision of practice
