Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a part time medical secretary within Obstetrics & Gynaecology based at University Hospital North Durham. Operating in a team the post holder will provide an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative service within Obstetrics & Gynaecology. It is essential that you have experience of audio typing and microsoft packages. A flexible, pro-active team player is required. You will also have excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to work under pressure and to deadlines

Main duties of the job

Provides clerical support to Consultants, Specialist Nurses, admin teams, Admin Manager and Service Manager

Liaises with other departments

Deals with queries from patients, visitors and staff

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

This role will liaise with Admin Manager, Service Manager, Medical Secretaries and a wide range of medical, nursing and allied health professional and admin staff within the Trust and outside agencies, and patients and relatives over the telephone externally, acting as a focal point of contact for all general enquiries concerning the work of the clinical team.

  • Experience of an admin role providing general provision of admin duties in a challenging and constantly changing environment.

Desirable

  • Experience of working within the Gynnaecology Department
  • Experience of working within an NHS environment
  • Experience of setting up and maintaining office filing systems
