Job summary
We are a department that welcomes doctors that wish to be
part of an expanding workforce and can offer a skill mix to suit both current
practices as well as develop new services. We would aspire for the post/s to
develop into substantive ones depending on suitable candidates and a suitable
probationary period. The post will be reviewed against demand 6 months
following commencement and adjustments may be required to the job plan for site
specific clinics and theatre PAs across the 3 main sites. A teaching element
will also be expected.
The post holder will be based at the University Hospital of
North Durham, however the role may involve programmed activities at other
hospitals within the Trust including Darlington Memorial Hospital, Bishop
Auckland Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital and Shotley Bridge Hospital to
provide inpatient, daycase and outpatient Plastic Surgery.

Surgical patients within the University Hospital of North Durham, and the
admission, examination and safe discharge of patients admitted to those wards.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Be responsible for the day to day care of the elective and
emergency Plastic Surgical patients within the University Hospital of North
Durham, and the admission, examination and safe discharge of patients admitted
to those wards, with consultant supervision.
Be given
opportunities to develop surgical skills and clinical management experience
commensurate with an ST3+ level registrar. A wide range of surgery on offer
will give opportunity to develop deficient areas.
Participate
in outpatient clinics with the assessment of both new and review patients.
Attend all
operating and outpatient commitments of their supervising Consultant.
Independent
operating with experience in skin cancer surgery, flap elevation and skin
grafts, management of hand trauma, experience in emergency Plastic Surgery
trauma.
Hours of
work may vary according to Clinical need.
Overseeing
the work of the F1 and CT1-2s, and can choose to get involved with the
organisation of the Junior Staff Rota, including allocating study and annual
leave. They also have primary supervisory responsibility for all trauma
admitted during working hours, overseen by the on-call consultant.
Supervise
the Dressing and Hand Clinic in the department.
Be
expected to provide cover in unforeseen emergencies and exceptional
circumstances and to deputise for absent colleagues in the normal run of duties
so far as is practicable.
Continue
to demonstrate progress towards personal development goals, e.g. NTN
allocation, research projects. etc.
Participate
in clinical audit projects within the Department.
Perform
administrative duties in a timely fashion.
