Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a cytology BMS to join the
Cellular Pathology laboratory in Durham City as a Band 7 Biomedical Scientist.
The post is full time working Monday to Friday. The laboratory is within the
University Hospital North Durham and handles approximately 40,000 histology,
cytology and post mortem samples per year using a range of laboratory equipment
and digital platforms.
Assisting the laboratory manager, the post holder will take
responsibility for the introduction of rapid onsite assessment clinics and MOHs
clinics.
There will be a requirement for diagnostic cytology
screening and reporting (candidates without the cytology DEP will be expected
to undertake this). Candidates must be experinced in cytology screening.
Applicants must be HCPC registered, hold the MSc
in Biomedical Science or HSD or have the equivalent qualification. Candidates
will require as a minimum; experience as a Specialist BMS in cytololgy and
evidence of document management responsibilities. A driven, ambitious and
technically skilled BMS with a desire to progress to band 7 and nearing
completion of above qualifications will be considered.
Main duties of the job
This position will be based in cytology. The successful
candidate will contribute to the smooth running of the department workflow and
equipment and provide technical expertise, line management, training and
leadership to other laboratory staff.
You will need to possess a wide range of skills,
demonstrating laboratory technical, interpretative and analytical skills, an
ability to organise and prioritise you own and your teams workload, and to
work autonomously and flexibly.
The ability to lead, coordinate and manage your team is
critical. Demonstration of previous leadership skills or of additional
responsibilities such as supervision of portfolio training, quality roles,
implementing and managing change or working with external parties is expected.
Excellent interpersonal skills and a high degree of personal resilience are
required for this post.
A detailed and high level of competence in
quality management are required. Previous participation in external
accreditation visits is desirable. The post holder will take the lead role for
ROSE and MOHs clinics for the department
