An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute
intervention team (AIT). The AIT service supports the provision of care across
the Trusts three acute sites by providing education and support for all
healthcare staff caring for the acutely ill deteriorating patient. Facilitating
decision making and communication between clinical staff, patients and
relatives is a key component of the role. The Team is firmly committed to
ensure all patients are treated by the right professional, in the right place,
at the right time, first time, every time, 24 hours-a-day.
This is an exciting role that will allow you to
utilise your education skills and clinical skills to improve practice and
ensure that patients receive the best possible standard of care. The role would
suit a healthcare assistant with a background in acute/emergency/critical care
who has an interest in teaching
Main duties of the job
To support the delivery of the
acute intervention team agenda to ensure care of the acutely ill patient is of
a high standard.
Follows standard procedures and guidelines and uses
analytical and judgement skills to assess patients who are acutely unwell.
Respond to emergency calls within the organisation as an
active member of the team with Intermediate life support training for Adults
and Paediatrics.
Carries out ECG recording (with appropriate training).
Carry out continuous monitoring of acutely unwell patients.
Support ward staff with the care of acutely unwell patients.
Support ward staff with the transfer of acutely unwell
patients to higher levels of care (if necessary).
Perform cannulation and venepuncture when required (with
appropriate training).
Supports nursing and medical staff in the management of
patients
Co-ordinates the task allocation out of hours under
supervision of the Nurse Practitioner, ensuring tasks are allocated to the
appropriate person.
Delivers teaching in relation to the deteriorating
patient.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
