Job description
Job responsibilities
As part of our drive towards a fully integrated electronic
patient record there is a recognition that the oversight and development of
this cannot be left to just one person.
With the signing of our contract with CERNER to be our partners in this
over the next 10+ years, there is a need to widen the clinical informatics
team.
Historically IT services within the health care system have
tending to sit within IT experts with little clinical involvement which may be
one reason why the National EPR programme failed. It has become apparent over the last few
years that IT should be the servant of the clinicians , not their master and
consequently there is an increasing need for clinicians to be the drivers of
development and change within our systems.
If you are committed to making our IT systems work for
patients and clinicians alike and would like to be involved in that I invite
you to apply for a post of deputy CCIO.
In this post you will have responsibility for ensuring that our
informatics strategy works for your area of work( or allocated area of work)
whilst at the same time engaging with your clinical workforce in your area to
ensure that our strategy is working for them as well. This will require clinical leadership skills
but also the ability to interact with colleagues in a multidisciplinary
way. It is important that you are
someone who will engage with your colleagues, listening, guiding helping and
learning from them.
In your role you would work closely with myself as CCIO( or
my successor) and with our Chief Nurse clinical information officer to deliver
a clear informatics strategy for the trust but also to continue to maintain a
clear strategy so that IT systems deliver for us in improving clinical user
acceptability and increased quality of care for our patients. Following implementation of CERNER it is
becoming apparent where gaps are or where improvements can be made and together
we will be able to look to fill those gaps.
This post is flexible.
It will attract between 1 Pas depending on how much time you have to give
to the post and how much we require in a particular area.
