Job summary
We are looking for a highly
motivated individual to join the Respiratory specialist nursing team. This is a
multifaceted role, incorporating key aspects such as clinical, education,
consultancy, research and management.
The candidate will be responsible
for reviewing and supporting patients with a diagnosis of COPD/Asthma in the
acute setting. They will be required to suggest treatment changes, and support
ongoing management as well as on going referrals to appropriate outpatient
clinics. There will also be the requirment for nurse led COPD and Asthma
clinics.
There will be a requirement to
arrange and support teaching within the acute settings and act as a resource to
staff both in and outside the trust.
Management of the nursing team at
UHND is also a requirement.
There will be an expectation to
lead in the clinical audit and lead/actively participate in research.

Main duties of the job
To provide professional leadership and be a source of
clinical expertise and professional advice, acting as a specialist nursing
resource in respiratory nursing.
See patients with a variety of respiratory illnesses,
ensuring that all patients and carers are well informed about their disease and
its management by providing appropriate and timely information
Do the day to day management of a small team including
appraisals.
To expand and develop the role to meet the changing needs of
patients working within the parameters of the Code of Professional Practice,
Trust and NMC guidelines.
Develop, establish and maintain networks locally, regionally
and nationally in order to share and disseminate information, research and
practice, establishing appropriate links with higher education.
Participate in nursing and collaborative research.
Assist in the development of policies, procedures and
clinical protocols as appropriate.
Develop standards of practice against which quality of care
may be measured.
Manage the respiratory nursing team.
Partake in nurse led COPD/Asthma clinics
