Job summary

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for 2 Healthcare Assistant Apprentice to work within Pre-operative Assessment at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be to provide healthcare support to a dedicated team in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures. There is one post based at Bishop Auckland Hospital and a further at University Hospital of North Durham. Formal training sessions will be part of the Apprenticeship programme based at New College Durham where the Healthcare support worker level 3 apprenticeship teaching will be held.

Main duties of the job

Healthcare Assistant Apprentices will receive appropriate training and guidance to undertake the full range of duties which will include:

To provide assistance during clinical and nursing procedures relevant pre-operative assessment

To work with other health care staff in maintain stock control

To work on the reception desk to welcome patients to the department.

To liaise with nursing staff , Waiting List department and the multidisciplinary teams within the trust

To develop skills in performing , basic health assessment and ECGs

To ensure the Pre -op assessment patient areas are kept clean, tidy and stocked

To contribute towards a regular quality assurance programmes as required

To attend all Trust mandatory and statutory training programmes

To maintain professional standards with reference to appearance, manner and punctuality

To carry out any other reasonable duties, as required

About us

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
