Job summary
The trauma audit and research network (TARN) has been working
with NHS Trusts in England and Wales for 20 years to improve Emergency
Healthcare Systems by collating and analyzing trauma patient care data within
each Trust.
The registry of more than 250,000 injured patients provides
a statistical base to support clinical audit and is a rich source of
information to support Trauma Service Improvement.
TARN produces quarterly comparative reports for
participating hospitals. These aid
multi-Speciality clinical case review and system of trauma care
evaluation. The post holder will be
responsible for the provision of timely, accurate and reliable data to TARN.
This will involve the identification using the TARN
inclusion criteria of patients admitted to the Trust with major trauma and
subsequent completion of data submissions via the electronic data collection
and reporting system (EDCR). Full
training will be given. In addition the
post holder may be required to participate in clinical audit projects within
the Emergency Department.
Main duties of the job
To co-ordinate the provision of accurate, reliable and
timely data to TARN by completion of data submissions via the web based system
according to the TARN inclusion criteria
To identify patients to
be included in TARN through the available computer systems and other
hospital information systems
To interpret information from patients records for purposes
of accurate and comprehensive data entry and submission to TARN in accordance
with their criteria
To identify where issues need escalating, to follow
predefined escalation protocols to ensure that any potential problems or issues
are quickly identified and communicated
To support and promote trauma audit liaising with both
clinical and audit/information staff to ensure the availability of good quality
data
To communicate effectively with staff of all levels both
within the Emergency Department and throughout the Trust and be a positive
ambassador when representing the Trust at external meetings/events
Dealing with requests for TARN data from clinicians and other hospital staff
To keep an electronic record of the status of TARN patients
Collect data for any internal trauma related audits and
present where required.
