Job summary

This is an opportunity to join our established Adult Physiotherapy inpatients team at University Hospital North Durham. We are currently advertising three band 6 roles within the team, Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist, Senior Stroke Physiotherapist and Senior Medical Physiotherapist. We are looking for applicants with knowledge and skills in acute inpatients, including cardiorespiratory management and rehabilitation. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and flexible individuals to join the team. The successful applicant will work as part of the Inpatient team in the specialities of Respiratory, Stroke or Medical as well as working as part of the wider inpatient team. The inpatient team provides physiotherapy to a diverse range of patients over a 7 day service framework and a respiratory on call service overnight.

We are also considering a band 5 to band 6 progression role depending on applicants experience.

Main duties of the job

Senior Stroke Physiotherapist

The clinical case load includes covering the hyper-acute stroke unit which receives patients from point of admission, the physiotherapy team support the wider MDT in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients including making plans and referrals for onward therapy in the community. They will work as part of the wider inpatient team as required by team leaders. The successful applicant will utilise their outstanding organisation and communication skills in order to support with timely discharge from the acute setting whilst achieving physiotherapy outcomes.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

The successful applicant will support students at an undergraduate level as a clinical educator, we support team members to undertake educator training. The trust has a robust induction training and essential training programme, including individual CPD budgets available to staff.

The team are very committed to providing a robust in-service training programme which the post holder will be encouraged to take an active part in developing, leading and benefitting from sessions towards maintaining CPD. The post holder will have the opportunity to work with peers and team leaders across the CDDFT sites to develop the physiotherapy service in the inpatient physiotherapy team.

There is potential for the successful candidate to rotate within inpatient disciplines if required by the service or to benefit to the individual.
