Job summary

We are looking for a Payroll and Pension System Advisor to join our busy and friendly team. The successful candidate will have a high level of IT skill particularly using Microsoft Office. They will have experience using ESR Payroll functions and Business Intelligence reporting. They will have knowledge of payroll and pension processing We are passionate and proud of what we do and will support your professional career development.

Main duties of the job

This is an opportunity to work within the Payroll and Pension Team supporting the delivery of monthly and weekly payroll and pension service to the Trust and its subsidiary company, CDD Services. The role is varied and so the roleholder assists daily in the main payroll processing but will use available systems to optimise payroll and pension preparation and seek to develop improvements which benefit the service

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

Operate ESR payroll interfaces with accuracy, developing and improving output where possible (EASY expenses, Health Roster, NHS Pensions)

Use ESR reporting for validation of data input into ESR and supplementary reporting to ensure accurate payroll produced.

Review existing reporting to ensure most efficient and useful reporting is produced. Design and create new reporting solutions as required using ESR.

Review data collection systems and develop where possible more efficient and improved methods, removing waste and duplication.

Support Payroll & Pension Team Leader in the process of raising and reviewing Service Requests

Provide reporting on payroll data to relevant bodies and departments

Processing of Salary Sacrifice schemes, their application through necessary checks required by legislation, the commencement and cessation of deductions and associated Benefits in kind processes

Running monthly and weekly payroll on ESR, processing reversals and supplementary payrolls

  • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
  • Deliver training and participate in awareness sessions about NHS payroll or pension matters such as roadshows and other Trust events

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 4 in ICT or significant equivalent experience gained through work experience in NHS Payroll and Pension environment
  • Minimum 5 GCSE Grade C/4 including Maths and English or equivalent /equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Recognised IT Qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Data Analysis or equivalent significant experience.
  • Information Governance

  • Expert ESR knowledge including Business Intelligence
  • Knowledge of e expenses system (EASY) and AFC and M&D Terms and Conditions
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS Payroll and Pensions function and operation
