This a development role, designed
to develop existing band 2/3 or equivalent healthcare colleagues within a
cardiorespiratory diagnostic environment. Band 3 in training, developing to Band
4 once training completed, and if a post is available at the end of the fixed term contract.
As part of this role you will complete a 27
month apprenticeship, whilst working in the department. Support and teaching
will be provided to ensure you develop into a multi-skilled practitioner,
capable of undertaking Cardiology and Respiratory diagnostic tests and
diagnostic service administration duties. Further progression routes may be
available via internal training or further external apprenticeships and
qualifications. This role will require additional study outside of your normal
job role hours due to the extensive nature of the apprenticeship programme.
Main duties of the job
Working
as part of the cardiorespiratory investigations team to perform basic cardiac
and respiratory diagnostic tests at the request of medical, surgical and
nursing staff across all directorates in the Trust. This post forms part of a
multidisciplinary team. Individual must complete a 27 month apprenticeship
whilst working in the department, you will be allocated a minimum of 6 hours
protected time per week as part of this post. By completing the level 4
healthcare science associate apprenticeship, you will be awarded a diploma in
healthcare science. This is not a supervisory post. Due to the high level of
the apprenticeship course, successful applicants may need to complete
additional study outside of working hours

Job responsibilities
This post will be based at Darlington Memorial, however the
post holder will be expected to be flexible and there will be some requirement
to work at Bishop Auckland. You may also be required to support services at the
other sites within the Trust.
We actively encourage and support all appropriate

Successful candidates will be trained and supported to:
Perform high quality standard 12 lead electrocardiograms
to professional protocols and standards on both outpatients and inpatients.
Perform full pulmonary function testing to professional
protocols and standards on both outpatients and in-patients.
Fit and remove ambulatory monitors to professional
protocols - outpatients and in-patients.
Analyse ambulatory ECG monitors
Assist during Doctor and physiologist led exercise testing
Assist during Doctor and physiologist led tilt testing.
Perform appropriate diagnostic tests appropriate to grade
and knowledge under the direction and/or supervision of physiology staff
Ensure patient privacy and patient dignity is maintained.
A sensitive approach must be adopted when dealing with patients with
disabilities and an appropriate level of assistance provided to achieve
appropriate testing positions.
To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team, dealing
with a wide range of patients including barrier-nursed and the critically ill.
To liaise with staff to organise and prioritise workload.
Monitor departmental equipment stock levels in the
departmental testing rooms to ensure adequate levels are maintained.
Report any untoward incidents, following Trust policies /
procedures and to be aware of the responsibilities of each member of staff in
terms of Trust health and safety policies. Ensure a safe and effective working
environment at all times.
Undertake all internal training requirements of the post.
Complete external diploma qualification essential to this
role
Complete relevant external qualifications suitable for job
role; namely SCST and ARTP certificates.
Approach patients, hospital visitors and colleagues in a
professional and courteous manner at all times.
Perform any other duties appropriate to the
post and grade requested by the Principal Cardiac Physiologist.
