Job summary
To function without direct supervision within the department
and facilitate the smooth running of clinics within the appointed times.
Treat patients according to their individual needs and
prescription, acting as their advocate as required.
Supervise the nursing team on a day to day basis, referring
to the department manager when necessary.
Manage the department in the absence of a senior
team when required.
Main duties of the job
To provide nursing assistance and
technical support within the clinics.
To provide advice to patient's
within the department, enabling optimum treatment, via face to face, telephone
enquiries and through health promotion information and/or information leaflets.
Teaching new skills to patients to
manage self-care.
Act as a mentor to students.
Supervision and training of
unqualified and newly appointed staff.
Ability to respond appropriately,
giving support to distressed patients, relatives and carers during and
following consultation.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of
the Trust Personnel and Health and Safety policies.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Liaising with the Multidisciplinary
Team to ensure the smooth running of the department.
Prepare and manage the Virtual Fracture Clinic as well as Elective
and Trauma Orthopaedic clinics, working closely within the team and on a one to
one basis with the senior Orthopaedic Team.
Organising patient reviews and follow up appointments.
Wound assessment and management application of Orthopaedic
devices (Walking Boots, Knee Braces, Futura splints)
Communicating professionally with the patients and
relatives, assisting with any of their queries and resolving issues
effectively.
Pre-assess patients that have been listed for trauma surgery.
Running the Nurse led wound clinic independently.
Have the ability to obtain blood and swab samples as well as
the ability to record Electrocardiograms.
To ensure all mandatory training and NMC revalidation is up
to date at all times.
