As a team we strive towards delivering a high standard of care and this is reflected in the feedback we receive from the patients and relatives who have had experience of being on our ward

Main duties of the job

As a porter caterer on the ward you will be required to assist health care to staff to ensure that patients receive adequate nutrition and hydration and that this is prepared and stored in a safe manner in line with the principles of Basic Food Hygiene. You will be expected to work effectively in a team and be flexible to support the needs of the service.

The successful applicant is required to be physically fit and able to safely handle heavy loads of supplies and disposal of clinical and household waste. You will also be responsible for the cleaning of the kitchen and dining room areas and the use of mechanical cleaners

You will be expected to work closely with the kitchens at the main site to ensure adequate supplies of food for our patients and will be responsible for the ordering and rotation of the same.

You will have good communication skills both written and verbal and use this during face to face contact with patients, staff and members of the public.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
