Job summary
As
a Consultant Radiologist you will be joining our current tream to deliver diagnostic
imaging and interventional radiology services across the Trust. You will
contribute to delivering a combination of Plain film, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and
non vascular intervention. The on-call rota is as second on-call from home from
5pm through to 9am similarly at weekends with outsourcing providing first on
call for CT outside of normal office hours. Home reporting has been implemented
successfully and the Trust is committed to further expansion.
Main duties of the job
As
a consultant radiologist you will work as part of a wider health care team
bringing excellence in heath care to the population of Durham and Darlington.
The role involves reporting imaging studies and communicating with colleagues
from multiple disciplines inside and outside radiology with a positive approach
to problem solving utalising available resources to provide a safe and
effective imaging service. A basic level of interventional practice is expected
including percutaneous drain insertion for collections and oncology biopsy
considered as a general radiology skill.

Reporting and image review will be
performed via PACS reporting stations presently using GE PACS and CRIS with
Dragon voice recognition for reproting and vetting studies. Trust email is
available via nhs.net either through MS Outlook or weblink. PACS Reporting
stations are installed at Darlington Memorial Hospital, University Hospital
North Durham and Bishop Auckland General Hospital. Some colleagues have
reporting stations installed within their own homes and the Trust is comitted
to expanding this provision based around a direct link to applicants own home
on demonstration of adequate service after appointment and adequacy of internet
to premises.
Consultants are expected to work
across the Trust as required. Secretarial support is available at both acute
hospitals. The trust has three 1.5T MRI scanners, two new Phillips Ingenia
scanners are now installed at Darlington and at Bishop Auckland Hospital and
third is currently being installed at UHND. CISCO state of the art
teleconferencing facilities to the Cancer Centre for the purpose of
Multi-disciplinary Team Meetings is installed in the Radiology Departments at
Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital North Durham with
additional facility in the Postgraduate Medical Education Centre at Bishop
Auckland.
The Trust hosts the Regional IMAC
training lab for Radiology Trainees across the North East on behalf of the
School of Radiology, and is a recognised training provider for trainees via
Health Education North East. The Trust is also a provider of undergraduate
training for medical students from the University of Newcastle Medical School.
Presently there are six Radiology trainees at CDDFT across the sites.
Agreement will be reached between you and the
Clinical Director after appointment with regard to specific job planned
activities scheduling activities, baseline
SPA is 1.5PA with 1 PA admin as stanadard reduced pro-rata for less than whole
time appointments. The job plan will be reviewed annually in accordance with
the Trust policy on Consultant Job Planning.
