Job summary

Due to an exciting investment in children's services within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced childrens nurse to work as a sister/charge nurse on Treetops paediatric ward at University Hospital North Durham.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic childrens nurse to support the nursing team and the ward manager in taking the childrens service forward. The successful candidate will be supporting new ways of working, delivering high standards of care whilst having the opportunity to expand their knowledge and gain experience around management of staffing, budgets etc.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to support staff and work within the multi-disciplinary team within childrens services. You will support and develop the team through change and will have a proactive role in the development of clinical standards and teaching within Childrens services. You will develop links with other departments/agencies within the Trust to ensure the delivery of an effective service for children and their families and will provide nursing care to children with varying medical and surgical conditions.

You will have responsibility for the management of the department ensuring high quality patient care whilst maintaining and improving performance. The post holder has clinical teaching and managerial responsibilities and will be in charge of a small team of nurses, HCAs and play specialists for which they are responsible for their development and management. You will provide strong leadership and have extensive knowledge and expertise in this area of nursing. You will be responsible to the Ward Manager and will be expected to deputise in their absence.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
