County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust invite applications for the position of Theatre Anaesthetics/Recovery Team Leader for our Durham Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

Our operating Theatres are based on 4 hospital sites, 2 of those sites provide acute services for multiple specialities. Our modern theatre environments have been recently refurbished and extended in order to provide integrated laparoscopic theatres at Darlington and Durham and increased laminar flow capacity to support a Centre of Excellence for Arthroplasty at Bishop Auckland.

The Theatre team work in partnership with the Day Surgery Units and the ward areas to ensure a positive experience for the patients within our care. The team are proud of the collaboration with all members of the multidisciplinary team, and continually take the opportunity to improve and develop within the perioperative environment. There is currently a focus on efficiency, safety and quality to deliver an outstanding service to meet the needs of our patient population.

Our Theatre team are friendly and supportive, encouraging professional development to enhance skills and professional competence. The departmental Practice Development team, in coordination with the Theatre Management team, support the staff members to identify areas for career progression.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Prioritise daily activities to respond to changing circumstances, providing a seamless service to users.

Develop work plans and allocate work, consistent with departmental objectives, ensuring these are realistic and achievable, taking into account multidisciplinary team members abilities and developmental needs.

Contribute to recruitment and retention using agreed methods and protocols for staffing and skill mix

Objectively assess the work of multidisciplinary team members, providing clear constructive feedback in a manner most likely to improve/maintain performance.

Act as the patients advocate in all matters relating to his/her care, treatment and welfare

Ensure that departmental/environmental standards are maintained in accordance with Trust policy and Infection Control standards

Promote and support the implementation of best practice through evidence based approach, participating in audit and challenging historical practices & unprofessional cultures.

Assist with performance reviews of all members of the team, facilitate and monitor performance in line with local competencies and Trust policies.

Work in collaboration with the Practice Development Team to develop clinical protocols to facilitate practice development.

Assist in the development of Clinical Quality Standards, co-ordinate implementation and audit outcomes with a systematic approach to service users
