Dietetic Assistant - Home Enteral Feeding (HEF)

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) Team, for a Dietetic Assistant. The successful candidate will support, and be supported by, our wider HEF team, comprising of 6 Dietitians, 1 Specialist Nurse, 1 other Dietetic Assistant and Admin Assistance, and Paediatric Dietetic Team, comprising of 4 Dietitians. The role will provide the chance to utilise your interpersonal skills, working with service users, families and carers to provide a high level of care, operating within an off FP10 service. The successsful candidate will also be provided with development opportunities, including facilitating student learning and extending their scope of practice into basic tube care.

The HEF and paediatric HEF team recently won our Trust's STAR award for work around sustainability. This is an area we continue to work on.

As a service, we actively encourage service improvement and development. Flexible working is utilised within the service and there are opportunities for training and course attendance.

The Nutrition and Dietetic Service comprises of 6 teams with 49 Dietitians, 2 Specialist Nurses, 5 Dietetic Assistants and admin support based across 4 sites.

Main duties of the job

* Under guidance of the Dietitians, conduct Dietetic Assistant reviews of Home Enterally Fed individuals within our caseload. This will include children, young and older people. Reviews may be via telephone, clinic, school, care home or home visit.

*Liaise with Dietitians, Home Enterally Fed individuals and their parents/carers and our third party enteral feed provider to ensure our service users receive enteral feed and equipment

*Liaise with other local Dietetic teams when individuals move into or out of the area, to ensure seamless transition of care

*Support service development and improvement within the Nutrition and Dietetics Service

*Support and seek innovative ways of working to promote the Service's sustainability plans (in line with the Trust's sustainability policy)

Essential

  • Good time management and organisational skills with an understanding of the role applied for within the clinical context and an awareness of limits to own knowledge base

Desirable

  • Has good presentation/teaching skills and experience and confidence in leading group sessions with service users/staff. Has knowledge of a ward environment and awareness of general clinical conditions which may be encountered in area of work

Qualifications

Essential

  • Hold a good standard of general education with any Health and Social related qualification to NVQ Level 3 standard. Holds evidence of computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and ability to work independently

Desirable

  • Has completed NHS e-learning related to food, nutrition and hydration within last 6 months. Has evidence of learning within the clinical area of enteral tube feeding and experience of using databases

  • Able to travel across Trust sites and in the community to meet the requirements of the post

  • Previous experience of working within healthcare, with ability to work both independently and as part of a team and utilise own excellent interpersonal skills
