Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join the Acute intervention team (AIT). The AIT service supports the provision of care across the Trusts three acute sites by providing education and support for all healthcare staff caring for the acutely ill deteriorating patient. Facilitating decision making and communication between clinical staff, patients and relatives is a key component of the role. The Team is firmly committed to ensure all patients are treated by the right professional, in the right place, at the right time, first time, every time, 24 hours-a-day.

This is an exciting role that will allow you to utilise your education and clinical skills to improve practice and ensure that patients receive the best possible standard of care. The role would suit any healthcare assistant with a background in acute/emergency/critical care who has an interest in teaching.

Main duties of the job

To support the delivery of the acute intervention team agenda to ensure care of the acutely ill patient is of a high standard.

To be eligible for Health and Care Worker visa sponsorship you will usually need to be paid at least £25,600 per year

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ LEVEL 3 Healthcare or demonstrable equivalent experience
  • Good standard of general education
  • IT Skills - Microsoft Office packages, Demonstrate a willingness to undertake further training, Ability to identify own training needs

Special Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of acutely ill patients. Ability to work on own initiative with limited supervision. Able to communicate with clinical staff and clients and deal sensitively and confidentially with situations. Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines. Ability to work as a team member. Ability to deal with people including colleagues, in a friendly, professional manner. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to adapt as the service develops

Desirable

  • ECG recording, Venepuncture, IV cannulation

Special Requirements

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate empathy and compassion in supporting patients relative and staff. Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in an acute care setting such as ED, AMU, ITU, Theatres.

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical audit
