We are delighted to advertise a 12 month secondment or fixed
term contract for a Matron for Paediatrics and Neonates covering care in acute
and community settings to cover maternity/adoption leave. This is an exciting opportunity for dynamic
and experienced Children’s nurse to be appointed to a senior leadership role,
which will support the General Manger to drive high standards of quality care
and patient experience.

Main duties of the job
Working alongside 2 Matron colleagues the post holder will
oversee a diverse portfolio, which includes two general paediatric wards and
assessment units, day surgery and elective care, two level 1 neonatal units,
outpatient services across 5 sites, a large 7 day CCN and complex care service,
specialist nursing teams and a secure unit.
As a Matron, you will have the opportunity to shape services to ensure
they are responsive and child focused.

The Matron will provide leadership and direction to the
staff within care pathways for which they are accountable, to ensure delivery
of safe, high quality care in line with the organisation’s strategic vision.
The post holder must be able to motivate teams to reach their full potential by
provision of exemplary line management skills
The Matron will provide expert clinical leadership to
frontline staff actively promoting Compassion in Practice, the underpinning
6Cs, translating the Trust’s vision,
mission, values and behaviours into operational practice in line with The
Matrons Handbook (NHSE/NHSI 2020).
The Matron will be accountable for the both the standard of
nursing/midwifery care and the environment within his/her identified area of
responsibility. The Matron will work with clinical teams to maintain excellent
standards of care, robust infection control practices, high standards of
cleanliness and ensure that patients’ privacy and dignity is maintained at all
times. Nutritional needs will be given the highest priority.
The Matron will as part of his/her role on a regular basis
deliver direct patient care meeting requirements of a registered nurse/midwife
including assessment, care planning and evaluation of care. It will also
include teaching of junior team members.
The Matron will be highly visible and accessible to staff,
patients and visitors/family members and be able to assist where issues cannot
be resolved by the Sisters/Charge Nurses/Team Leaders
Effective line management of Senior Sisters / Charge
Nurses/Team Leaders within the area for which they are responsible is
fundamental in order to support a culture of consciousness to deliver financial
balance and achievement of efficiencies.
DIMENSIONS OF THE JOB
The post holder will be readily available to advise staff on
all operational management issues/infection control/patient safety/quality
issues as they arise at ward, team and department level.
Monitor performance against the range of relevant patient
safety indicators such as incident reports, medication errors, and record
keeping and outline improvement plans where aspirations are not being realised.
The role will be clinically focused and include working
alongside nurses/midwives in a coaching/teaching/supervisory capacity.
The postholder will lead on all aspects of patient safety
and complaints for the area of responsibility, launching investigation / root
cause analysis as required with support from the relevant clinical lead and
general manager.
The Matron will ensure that patient feedback is acted upon
and all lessons learned from complaints and incidents are implemented. Ensure
themes are disseminated widely as part of the overall Clinical Governance
framework
The Matron will champion the experience of children, young
people and families who receive services by striving to improve care quality.
The post holder will provide leadership to ensure caseload
management and flow of patients throughout the service effectively; identifying
and facilitating solutions to bottlenecks to ensure length of stay and
re-admission rates are reduced in line with the organisations objectives.
