Job summary
To provide comprehensive infant
feeding support within an established infant feeding team. This support will
be person focused and evidence based and
delivered within the acute units and the primary care settings,
The
successful candidate will recognize the responsibility and accountability of
their practice and be expected to develop
the skills required to fulfil this post.
Main duties of the job
There is significant emphasis on
multi disciplinary working and the ability to work as an individual as well as a
team member is essential.
The post is aimed at a midwifery practitioner
with a particular interest in supporting families with normal infant feeding
and complex feeding issues and who is
able to support and empower the
midwifery workforce.

Job responsibilities
Observe the Midwifery Rules Code of Practice and Code of
Professional Conduct as laid down by the N.M.C.
The individual will
conduct and monitor audits in all areas, pertaining to infant feeding and
promotion of breastfeeding and ensure
findings cascaded to Specialist Infant feeding midwife. This will include
clinical skills assessments for all staff, supplementation and environmental
audits in line with Unicef standards.
The post holder will provide breast feeding /infant feeding
support, encouragement and practical assistance to staff and people when
required to do so, ensuring best practice and maintenance of Baby friendly
Standards.
Will support Band 7 Specialist infant feeding midwife to
increase initiation and duration of breast-feeding especially within
disadvantaged groups.
Will support the promotion of breast feeding, providing day
to day support and ensure visibility within the clinical area.
Will support Specialist infant feeding midwife with
Frenulotomy service, and carry out any necessary training to do so.
Ensure all equipment relating to infant feeding is used
appropriately by staff following local guidelines and infection control policies.
Support Specialist infant feeding midwife to maintain Unicef Baby friendly
Accreditation and work towards Unicef Gold award.
Will support the Specialist Infant feeding
midwife to deliver specialist training
relating to infant feeding to all relevant staff. Including Two days mandatory
induction training and yearly mandatory
