Job summary

If you're driven, proactive, and a natural communicator, this is your chance to step into a unique role within our Corporate Affairs team. As a Foundation Trust, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is required to operate a Council of Governors, and we're seeking a dedicated individual to provide vital support, helping Governors fulfil their important responsibilities.

You'll be at the heart of governance activity--providing high-quality secretarial and administrative support, coordinating Governor involvement in Trust and partner events, and ensuring the smooth running of meetings, workshops, and activities. You'll also support the Director of Corporate Affairs, gaining valuable exposure to the Trust's most senior leaders.

Main duties of the job

You'll be joining a small, friendly, and supportive team of Corporate Affairs Officers and the Associate Company Secretary, working together to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance. We provide trusted advice to the Chair, Board of Directors, and Governors, shaping how the Trust operates at the most senior levels across statutory, regulatory, and business conduct matters. Sitting within the portfolio of the Director of Corporate Affairs--who works closely with the Chair and Chief Executive--this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact at the heart of the organisation.

Job responsibilities

In this role, youll be at the heart of supporting our Council of Governors, helping to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Your work will be varied, people-focused, and central to the success of the team. Key areas of your role will include:

  • Being the first point of contact responding to both internal and external telephone queries about the Council, and making sure theyre directed to the right person quickly and effectively.

  • Supporting governors handling queries in person or by phone with professionalism and care, always following Trust and local procedures.

  • Clear and effective communication engaging with staff, visitors, and service users through a range of methods (verbal, written, and electronic) and tailoring information to suit the individual.

  • Keeping things organised managing the Councils electronic diary, scheduling meetings, coordinating commitments, and ensuring everyone stays informed.

  • Event coordination arranging governor attendance at external events, working closely with the Communications Team, and providing hands-on support (including transporting materials when needed).

  • Chasing progress following up on actions with managers to keep things on track and ensure deadlines are met.

  • Accurate record keeping maintaining up-to-date details on governors, including service length, documentation, and website content.

  • Workshop and meeting support organising venues, ordering refreshments, and taking notes to make sure workshops and events run smoothly.

  • Administrative and secretarial support assisting the Company Secretary and wider team, including coordinating communications like Trust Matters.

  • Database management maintaining accurate electronic records and systems as required.

  • Governor elections providing support with the annual election process.

  • Annual Members Meeting helping to organise and facilitate one of the Trusts most important events.
