Our Pharmacy teams are looking to appoint to a two-year fixed term training contract, based across sites at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. The department provides an extensive range of services where Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) play an important role working alongside pharmacists, medicines management pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support staff and other healthcare professionals.

Your responsibilities will be varied and include medicines management duties at ward level undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing patients own medicines for suitability and ordering medication for individual patients. The role is integral in providing a quality dispensing and medicines management service for all patients within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will follow a comprehensive training programme that will cover all aspects of hospital pharmacy; to include placements within stores and procurement, aseptics, clinical trials, outpatient pharmacy; receiving, validating and issuing medicines, as well as the opportunity to undertake a community pharmacy and mental health placements. Students will study virtually via Bradford College on a day release to achieve BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians. Students will receive full support from an Educational Supervisor and qualified pharmacy assessors to complete the qualification.

Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at Grade A*- C or 4 - 9 to include English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology (Dual or Combined Science Award accepted) plus one other subject or equivalent qualification.

You will have had experience in a busy dispensary and have excellent knowledge of the post, be enthusiastic, self- motivated, hardworking and possess good organisational and communication skills with a commitment to both the pharmacy department and to their training.

On successful completion of their training, qualified technicians must register with the General Pharmaceutical Council in order to practice within the pharmacy profession.
