Specialist Nuclear Medicine Radiographer / Trainee

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Nuclear Medicine Radiographer or a Trainee to take a significant role in a busy Nuclear Medicine Department here at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust. The Department provides a wide ranging imaging, non-imaging and therapeutic radionuclide service based at the Royal Preston Hospital. This busy department is equipped with two dual head SPECT/CT scanners (GE Discovery 870 DR).

If you are a trainee Band 5 radiographer you must have a DCR/BSc Hons in Diagnostic Radiography and be HCPC registered. You must be willing to commit to training for a year and you would be appointed to a band 6 position on completion of the diploma and once fully competent.

The Department supports a progressive cardiac imaging service with Radiographer lead stressing.

You will hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine and have proven experience of an extensive range of Nuclear medicine procedures and demonstrable evidence of a high level of Hybrid Imaging knowledge.

Suitably qualified radiographers with an interest in Nuclear Medicine and willing to undertake the Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine will also be considered for a development role.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for carrying out the workload in the specific area of the department assigned, to ensure the timely delivery of an effective service.

You will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice, supervise more junior staff and deploy staff assuring standards are met.Provide leadership and direction to the team, acting as a role model and patient advocate.

Assess, plan and make informed decisions on the required Imaging examinations providing advice and maintaining associated records.

  • Assist and support the Lead radiographer in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes.
  • Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
  • Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines.
