Job summary
Applications are invited for two Junior Clinical Fellows to join our Urology Department, based at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital. These are both full-time posts, initially for a 12-month period.
You will be expected to work at both sites (Chorley and Preston), although the majority of on call work will take place at Preston.
Although this post is not recognised for training purposes, considerable "hands on" training is given in line with skills and experience.
Clinical duties of the post will be to support the Consultant medical staff in the provision of urological services predominantly in Preston, but also at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital. Applicants should hold a full driving licence as they will need to commute between sites.
Main duties of the job
Duties
- Daily ward round at Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital or Royal Preston Hospital
- Attendance at out-patient clinics at Preston and Chorley.
- Operating sessions will be determined by the individual's experience with both supervised in-patient and day case lists in Chorley allowing training in endoscopic, laparoscopic and open pelvic and renal surgery.
- This post will be part of the 1 in 16 on-call general surgery rota at FY2-CT1/JCF grade level covering Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
- Audit and research activities, participation in teaching and training activities for medical and clinical staff is expected.
- Assessment of ward referral at Royal Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
- Providing support to more junior staff eg FY1 and FY2/ Medical StudentWeekly programme will typically include 1 clinic, 1 inpatient operative list and 1 flexible cystoscopy/diagnostic list.

You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.
The majority of our junior clinical fellows go on to be successful in national selection for Urology training.
