We are offering up to a 12 months fixed term position (maternity cover) within our expanding and developing Paediatric Audiology Service that specialises in a 'whole child' approach to audiological care. We see children in community settings across an extensive area of Lancashire and our Consultant Audiovestibular Physician is at the forefront of APD research. We are a small, friendly but busy multidisciplinary team that embraces our Trust's vision to provide excellent care with compassion.

This post is a fixed term post and contract will end on 31/03/2026

Main duties of the job

You will assist in the delivery of a high quality Paediatric Audiology Service aimed at maintaining national standards for clinical and professional excellence. The post holder will perform a broad range of complex and non-routine tasks to assist the diagnosis and habilitation of hearing and balance disorders in babies, children and young adults. You will be expected to work with indirect supervision and use your initiative at all times.

In addition to having a BSc(Hons) or equivalent in Audiology and professional registration with an appropriate body (AHCS Registration), you will need to be an organised team player who cares about delivering a high quality service, enjoys a varied role, is a great communicator and who has lots of energy!

Job description

Job responsibilities

Assist the Consultant Audiological Physician and senior grades of staff in tertiary level evaluation of hearing disorders in young adults, children and babies.

Undertake a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on children and babies including those with challenging behaviour such as with syndromes, developmental delay, learning or communication difficulties and physical impairments using investigative and analytical skills.

Perform under indirect supervision a range of comprehensive hearing assessments on older children as part of the second tier assessment service.

Assist in the production of individualised (re)habilitative programmes for hearing impaired babies, children and young adults including those with challenging behaviour.

Assist in the evaluation of audiological treatment programmes, address the necessary changes needed for childrens and babies on-going aural (re)habilitation and report outcomes to a multidisciplinary team.

Perform under indirect supervision Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) assessments as part of the APD pathway, including the analysis of questionnaires .

Provide a hearing aid technical support/repair service for all hearing aided children.

Perform ear impressioning in young adults, children and babies with direct or indirect supervision as required.

Assist with the administrative aspects of the in-house and peripheral Ear Mould Service

Assist in the review and up-date of working practices, admin and clerical procedures in line with NDCS, NHSP and MCHAS guidelines.

Assist with the introduction of any new Audiological equipment, technique or working practice and assist with training where necessary.

Assist with the administrative aspects of the hearing aid service including record keeping, maintenance and ordering of stock.

Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of Health and Education professionals to promote the continued implementation of a modernised service as recognised by National Bodies (ie MCHAS, NDCS, NHSP, BSA, BAA).

Provide information to service users and carers on local resources available.

Liaise with departmental admin/clerical staff to ensure an efficient and effective day-to-day service.

Problem solve or defer as necessary all hearing aid queries that arise from children, parents, carers and other members of the multidisciplinary team including situations with potential conflict.

Maintain comprehensive and accurate electronic records of assessment and treatment in line with legal and departmental policy and communicate results to appropriate disciplines in the form of letters and reports

Collect data and statistics as directed by the Consultant Audiological Physician and Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.

To take part in the annual performance review in accordance with Trust policy.

To undertake mandatory training in accordance with trust policy.

Report all feedback from service users and professionals to the Paediatric Audiology Service Manager.

Maintain AHCS registration.
