Job summary

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Stroke Medicine.

This post forms part of the Lancashire teaching hospitals Overseas Registrar Development and Recruitment Program (ORDeR Program).

This is a program which is recognised by the GMC and to which (if required) the trust can sponsor successful candidates to gain their GMC registration through trust sponsorship.

In this post you will work in our Comprehensive Stroke Unit based at The Royal Preston Hospital. The Stroke Service is closely integrated with the Neurosciences Directorate which provides regional neurosciences for a population of approximately. 1.5 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Candidates applying for this post must ensure they are able to commit to being in the UK, ready to start work before the 1st October 2023

Main duties of the job

As part of your duties you will be expected to:

Undertake supervised outpatient clinics and completion of associated administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.

Provide cross cover for inpatient management and, where required, short term cover of emergency leave or absence.

Assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.

Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.

Maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and British Association of Stroke Physicians.

Support colleagues in specialist nursing roles, allied health care professionals

Participate in medical student teaching including bedside and lecture-based teaching, PBL sessions and delivery of online learning materials

Participate in local departmental teaching, research and audit

There will also be opportunities to take part in thrombolysis

Although this is not a formal training post, the post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years postgraduate training courses completed including one of the following: oMaster's in medicine (MD) oDiplomate of national Board (DNB), or
