Job summary
The Radiotherapy Service at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS FT is looking for an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer, confident in working in a fast paced multi-professional environment to take a lead role in treatment delivery activities in our forward thinking department.
Our department is a busy centre providing external beam radiotherapy services for Lancashire and South Cumbria . We have seven matched Elekta linear accelerators, including the fist Elekta Harmony Linac in the UK, two Phillips Big Bore CT scanners and an Xstrahl Superficial unit networked by a MOSAIQ patient management system. Radiographer-led daily IGRT is routine for complex and innovative radiotherapy delivery procedures and we are using SGRT on all equipment. We are a commissioned provider of SABR and SRS/T. We participate in multi-centre portfolio research trials. Post-graduate study, research and development and clinical audit is encouraged and supported.

Main duties of the job
The role offers a blend of pre treatment clinical practice and personnel management; you will have responsibility for professional clinical supervision and first-line managerial in pre treatment teams. You will play a vital role in the department, ensuring that strong links are maintained between all sections & that knowledge and expertise is shared.
You will have high standards of professional practice and be a role model for junior staff and pre-registration learners, leading by example to deliver the best possible service to our patients and their carers.

Leading the safe, accurate and efficient planning and associated pre-treatment activities of external beam radiotherapy including CT scanning, virtual simulation and data preparation. The Therapeutic Radiographer Team Leader monitors individual, team and wider treatment preparation team performance to ensure high standards of care, information and support while respecting the privacy and dignity of all patients under their care. They supervise activities in all aspects of the pre-treatment work area, ensuring safe, effective workload management and promoting best practice in technical and patient care.
Undertakes first line management responsibility for own team, providing clinical supervision and support for pre- and post- registration learners.
Provide leadership in all aspects of pre-treatment, driving development and implementation of evidence-based practice, acting as a role model and patient advocate.
Ensure activities that contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment performed in a timely manner to maintain the productive operation of the Radiotherapy Department.
Work with the departmental senior leadership team, acting as Critical friend when required, to optimise the experience of service users and staff in the Radiotherapy department.
Undertake operational management for work area to ensure delivery of a flexible service which meets fluctuations in demand (including Bank Holiday and weekend on call arrangements).
