Job summary

Do you want a varied and motivating career? We are looking for an enthusiastic Ophthalmic Imaging Practitioner to join our fast paced and expanding service.

Based at Lancashire Eye Centre at Chorley Hospital but with travel to Royal Preston Hospital you will need to be able work on your own and as part of a team.

You will be working in the multidisciplinary team to provide an expert, safe, effective, and high-quality Diagnostic Imaging Services at Lancashire Eye Centre. The role encompasses supporting junior staff to develop skills. The postholder will act as an exemplar and professional role-model in embracing core values of caring, organised, excellent and inclusive. You will work clinically undertake day to day supervision of the diagnostic team working with the Unit Manager to deliver ophthalmic imaging across the subspecialties.

In addition, you will provide medical photography for oculoplastic patients' and you will be expected to hold a degree in medical illustration/photography or equivalent and be AHCS registered.

Main duties of the job

As a band 5 Ophthalmic Imaging Practitioner you will also be expected to have significant practical experience in delivering the following e ophthalmic imaging procedures including:

  • Optical Coherence Tomography.
  • Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.
  • Colour Fundus Photography
  • Photo Slit-Lamp Photography.
  • Stereo Imaging
  • Fluorescein Angiography
  • Indocyanine Green Angiography (to be developed)
  • Optos Imaging.
  • Anterior Segment OCT.
  • External and Studio Photography

The ophthalmology workforce is a multi disciplinary team with a focus on excellent patient care comprising ophthalmic technicians, nurses as well as optometrists and orthoptists. The MDT support the medical team in delivering high quality holistic care to our patients.

The service is predominantly delivered from Lancashire Eye Centre a purpose built dedicated ophthalmic unit on site at Chorley Hospital with all ophthalmic services co located.

  • Have a basic knowledge of ophthalmic medical conditions, terminology, and anatomy to determine the most appropriate technique to record the condition
  • Inform the patient what will happen during the imaging and photographic process and ensure relevant, informed consent is gained and understood
