Job summary

A locum consultant post has become available in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR). This role is for maternity leave cover and is within the endometriosis service. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. Experience and a passion for caring for women with endometriosis is required in order to deliver a high-quality patient experience with timely access to our BSGE accredited unit. Work is supported by a specialist endometriosis nurse. Part-time/less than full time applications are invited.

Our commitment to the endometriosis service requires that this post includes further development of the service and hence, a leadership role within the department would be advantageous and incorporated into the job plan. The successful candidate will be expected to lead on the development of new pathways supporting the operational management team in shaping the future strategy of the endometriosis service within this accredited unit.

Main duties of the job

Gynaecology commitments would include a general gynaecology clinic and endometriosis clinic with a dedicated session of MDT. A weekly operating list is included in the job plan and where necessary support for operating development provided. Gynaecology Hot Week is covered as a 1 in 12.

Although, this job is dedicated to endometriosis, an obstetric commitment could be accommodated especially in the field of complex Caesarean sections. Any desires for particular involvement in an obstetric clinic and labour ward can be negotiated.

Emergency (out of hour) commitments covers gynaecology (currently a 1 in 10 rota but under review). An out of hours obstetric commitment can be negotiated. Out of hours work is split with separate consultants on call for obstetrics or gynaecology.

Gynaecology consultants provide emergency and elective assistance for the obstetric team to support complex obstetric surgery.
