Job summary
We are looking for an accredited gynaecological cancer surgeon as a replacement post to join the team of gynaecological oncologists. This maintains the team at 5 whole time equivalent gynaecological oncology surgeons as per recommendations from an RCOG and external workforce review. Part-time/less than full time applications will be considered.
It is expected that the successful post-holder will continue to develop the tertiary service based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
The Trust provides a tertiary service for Lancashire & South Cumbria together with local services for Preston and Chorley populations. We have a full complement of tertiary surgical services to support multidisciplinary surgery including plastic, urology, colorectal, upper GI surgery. The Trust also delivers neurosurgical oncology and vascular surgical services for the region.
We have a multi-disciplinary surgical MDT to effectively manage complex cases (including post-radiotherapy exenteration) and the effective organisation/coordination of multidisciplinary surgery. The centre has radiotherapy and chemotherapy services. The central MDT is supported by specialist radiologists, histopathologists and oncologists.
Main duties of the job

However, in brief:-
Have an active role in the development and delivery of the regional gynaecological surgical cancer service.
Develop the academic partnerships with Lancaster and UCLAN universities, lead projects, supervise clinical research fellows and continue the translational research programme.
Active participation to the Robotic surgical programme depending on own personal goals.
Provide direct input to patients; contribute to multi-disciplinary teams and lead the co-ordination of care for patients within Preston and Chorley Hospitals.
Develop close links with clinical teams in other hospitals in the network.
Participate in Gynaecology on call and day time Hot week cover.

Consultants may work across two Trust sites (Preston and Chorley) depending on their job plan. Out-patient services are provided at Chorley and out-patient/in-patients at Preston.
The Trust has an award-winning Leadership and Development Programme, and all new consultants are enrolled in a 12-month induction programme. An additional consultant development programme ('consultant stretch') is available for individuals wishing to enhance their clinical leadership skills and have a better understanding of NHS and Trust processes. Clinical Leadership is considered a vital part of the Strategy and Development in the Trust.
