Job summary
We are looking to appoint two dynamic and forward-thinking Consultants in Stroke Medicine to join our Stroke Services Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is an exciting time to be joining us as we are in the last stages of becoming a Comprehensive Stroke Centre. We provide an active acute thrombolysis service supported by telestroke out of hours, and we are also the neuro-interventional centre for the region providing neuro-interventional thrombectomy procedures for patients.
Main duties of the job
This post supports continued development of the stroke service, you will work alongside two existing Stroke Consultants as well as 3 Nurse consultants along with a team of specialist stroke nurses, therapists, stroke advanced nurse practitioners, matrons, ward managers and the wider team to provide excellent care to our patients at all stages of their hospital journey.
You will be involved in the delivery of acute stroke and rehabilitative stroke care. You will contribute to providing a high-quality TIA service (with dedicated MRI and Carotid Doppler provision), outpatient clinic as well as be part of our new Ambulatory Stroke Pathway. There will be an opportunity for you to join the regional telestroke service for out of hours thrombolysis support.
About us
As a part of the Medical Directorate at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Stroke Medicine is provided at both Hospital sites (Royal Preston Hospital (RPH) and Chorley & South Ribble Hospital (CDH) which serves a local population of 390,000).This proactive service consists of Hyper acute and Acute stroke services at RPH as well as an emergency TIA service and stroke rehabilitation at CDH.
The Stroke Medicine service is closely integrated with the Neurosciences Directorate, which provides regional neurosciences for a population of 1.5 million residents in Lancashire and South Cumbria. Services within this include:
- Regional Neuroscience led Stroke Interventional Service with provision of Vascular Neurology
- Neurosurgery, Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology
- Neuro-critical Care and Neuro-rehabilitation
