Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a motivated, reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Band 3 Health Care Assistant, to join our team on Ward 4 which is the Plastic Surgery & Burns department based at Royal Preston Hospital.

Here on Ward 4 we are a 22 bedded high quality specialised area which takes elective and emergency Plastic Surgery cases. As specialists in Plastics Surgery you will learn a vast amount about wound management such as burns, traumatic injuries and animal/human bites. This is alongside the care of our elective operations such as breast reconstruction, abdominoplasty and skin grafting.

As a Ward 4 HCA you will be caring for patient's pre and post-operatively as well as ICU step downs under the support and supervision of the Nursing Staff

The ward operates a 12 hour shift pattern therefore, you will be expected to be flexible, working 12 hour shifts over 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

As a senior healthcare assistant you will support the qualified nursing staff to provide high standards of care to our patients. You will be a valued member of the team and support the team with assessment and treatment of patients.

You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge/ward manger including: personal hygiene, toileting, use of continence aids, catheter and stoma care, measuring & monitoring of patients fluid and dietary intake. You will be providing moving & handling assistance for patients for pressure area care, assessing pressure areas and skin integrity, taking specimens, including blood sugars, recording physical measurements and observing for changes in patients condition, carrying out simple dressings,performing ECG's, venepuncture and cannulation,
