Job summary
This post is for a Clinical Fellow at ST5(+) level - for Simulation plus Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The O&G Services at Preston and Chorley are unified under a single Directorate. The successful candidate will be expected to work on both sites. Approval has been sought for Out of Programme for Experience.
This post is fixed term for 12 months. The post will be split 60:40 between clinical duties and simulation activity. This is a full-time post, however applications from candidates seeking a part time post will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Clinical duties will include all those duties normally expected of a Senior Clinical Fellow/Specialty Trainee in O&G (equivalent to ST3, and above) in the UK, and will account for the majority of the appointee's time (60%). The remaining 40% of this post is dedicated to Simulation Based Medical Education.
Senior Clinical Fellow in O&G duties will include:-
- To work within the delivery suite to provide input to the routine and the emergency workload at second on-call level for two sessions per week
- To undertake elective & emergency Caesarean sections
- To work within the ante-natal clinics
- To provide service in an area of special interest in obstetrics
- To work within the gynaecology clinics
- To undertake gynaecological surgery
- On-call duties at second on-call level on full shift system (currently 1 in 9)
- Participation and attendance at the Directorate's audit meetings
Senior Clinical Fellow in Simulation duties will include:-
- Supporting and developing Medical Education and Simulation activity
- Develop simulation scenarios and courses
- Facilitate and deliver Simulation Centre courses
- Facilitate and deliver in-situ Simulation in the O&G Department
- Participate in research in Simulation
About us
LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 providing tertiary specialist services to the Integrated Care System of Lancashire and South Cumbria (1.8 million) as well as Level 3 neonatal services, regional services in gynaecological oncology, neurosciences (neurosurgery and neurology), plastic surgery, renal medicine, vascular surgery, interventional radiology and hosts the regional trauma centre.
The department at the Sharoe Green Unit (SGU) within the main hospital site opened in 2004 and provides the acute services for the Women's Health. The delivery rate is approximately 4500 per annum. There are four options for place of birth - consultant unit at SGU, Preston Birth Centre alongside the consultant unit, Chorley Birth Centre on the Chorley site and home birth.
We are fortunate to host the Lancashire and South Cumbria gynaecological oncology centre where surgery and medical oncological services are provided for women from across the wider area. In addition within benign gynaecology we host an endometriosis centre and a ambulatory operative hysteroscopy suite.
The Consultant body has been strengthened in recent years in line with the recommendations from the Ockenden report.
