About us
We aim to live our values through the way we work. We want you to be proud to work here and see yourself as part of a bigger team by working in a joined up and collaborative way with other teams and professions. We support and champion each other's ideas and the work of the team.
The Medicine for the Elderly department provides facilities for both acute and rehabilitation patients along with appropriate multi-disciplinary support team. We have 2 wards at RPH (ward 17 and acute frailty assessment unit AFAU) and 3 wards at Chorley hospital (Brindle, Rookwood A and Rookwood B).
Medicine for the Elderly has expanded recently with the establishment of an acute frailty assessment unit (AFAU) at Preston, hot clinics in the community and 4 new consultant appointments within the last 3 years. We have good relationships with our local CCG and with the local GPs: the community hot clinic is housed at a local GP practice.
The team has been pioneering in screening for delirium and dementia in the elderly as well as providing comprehensive geriatric assessments. We were BMJ finalists in 2016 in the field of innovation.
The care of the elderly wards at both Preston and Chorley have been fully refurbished (2014) and are now dementia and elder friendly with level 2 quality awards.
