Essential requirements are:-
- NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject (e.g science)
- experience of working in a UK clinical laboratory
- technically competent of performing a wide range of laboratory procedures and tasks that require precision and manual dexterity
- knowledge and experience of health and safety practices relevant to clinical microbiology
- experience of UKAS accreditation to ISO 15189 standard
- Able to produce accurate and reliable data in all aspects of laboratory work
Main duties of the job
This post is to support Coronavirus and Rapid testing for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
You will be expected to work flexibly on aplanned shift pattern to cover a 24/7 working pattern
Shifts will be scheduled and planned in advance

Job responsibilities
Duties to include, but not be limited to:
- Ensure efficient delivery of the service.
- Work autonomously to provide results for the Rapid Testing Service.
- Discussion of Point of Care Testing (POCT, includes Rapid) equipment problems and possible solutions with the Point of Care Testing Coordinator and senior members of staff, and to relay solutions to other members of staff within the trust
- Dealing with telephone enquiries regarding POCT equipment from nurses, clinicians, healthcare practitioners and to provide verbal advice as appropriate.
- Inform senior staff of any issues or complaints regarding POCT where appropriate.
- Observe and assist in the application of Departmental, Trust and National policies, codes of practice and legislation. E.g. health and safety, disciplinary, radiation, data protection.
- To use own initiative to prioritise workloads under the supervision of senior staff.
- Ensure stock control is maintained in each area
- To communicate, as appropriate, using information technology
- To supervise and direct more junior staff regarding work issues
- Ensure job lists are completed
- To use all types of POCT devices and equipment with technical competence.
- Performance of investigations and techniques requiring precision and good hand eye co-ordination, as allocated by senior staff.
- To set up and check POCT equipment for correct operation without supervision.
- To act on errors on POCT equipment appropriately
- To decontaminate the equipment when required.
- To perform the preventative maintenance of POCT equipment as required
- To be competent in the use of analyser interfaces used for data handling software
- Maintain and be able to repair commonly occurring faults in POCT equipment under the supervision of qualified staff.
- To monitor the storage and stock of POCT equipment and consumables
- To activate and monitor users on POCT systems as required
- Use of laboratory Misys and Trust CPR systems for result retrieval and production of work lists as appropriate
- Use of EQA internet sites to return EQA results for POCT devices
- Use of middleware for POCT devices to check user status, device locations etc e.g. Precision Web
- Assists in statistical data collection and audit
