Job summary

We are looking to appoint a qualified Orthodontic Therapist to join our existing team working up to 37.5hours per week and based at Royal Preston Hospital. Good communication skills and the ability to work individually or as part of a team are essential.

Main duties of the job

Your role would support the Consultant Orthodontist and Unit Manager in improving standards to meet performance targets, provide an extended role in Orthodontics as an Advanced Practitioner, managing patients requiring orthodontic treatment following guidance from the Consultant Orthodontist. The post would require your involvement in:

  • Providing an Orthodontic Service by implementing care plans and performing orthodontic procedures.
  • Provide a specialist contribution to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment working in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals to improve patient care.
  • Facilitate and participate in audit and quality assurance programmes and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Involvement in the teaching, mentoring and assessment of students, trainees, and professional staff, thereby promoting a learning culture.
  • The post is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team, responsible for specialised clinical skills and leadership competencies promoting the effective and economical use of available resources and contributes to the delivery of a budgetary balance.
  • You are accountable for you own actions within you scope of practice as determined by the General Dental Council without direct supervision (in line with British Orthodontic Society Guidelines) and accountable for the actions of unqualified members of staff.

  • Specialist training and experience of specific varied client groups with complex needs in an acute setting.
  • Registered with the GDC.

Desirable

  • Further Adult Education Teacher Certificate.
  • Training in the provision of good oral hygiene advice.
  • Committed to own personal development and structured own personal development plans.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant post degree and/or diploma experience of working as a Orthodontic Therapist and managing own caseload.
  • Experience in the care of medically compromised patients.
  • Understands GDC code of practice and Orthodontic Therapist proficiencies and scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of Orthodontic procedures.
  • Aware of how risk management impacts on role as an Orthodontic Therapist.
  • Experience of planning and managing arrangements for delivery of oral hygiene and Orthodontic treatments to a large group of patients.
