This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to develop and progress their career in NHS Finance and to join one of the most progressive, forward thinking and award winning NHS Finance Departments in the North West.
The Finance Apprentice will be supported and mentored on a day to day basis by throughout their apprenticeship and will be offered one day study support throughout their apprenticeship.
The successful candidate will be providing support to the Financial Advice & Financial Service teams; working closely with the all levels of staff to provide assistance and support as required throughout the month.
You will need to be able to communicate effectively on a day to day basis. You must be enthusiastic, motivated and be able to work well under pressure. Within the role, you will always be part of a team so you must be adaptable, flexible and demonstrate effective learning when working within this team.
You must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office with particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel. Functions frequently used are Lookup's, Pivots, SUMIF's etc.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide financial support to the Financial Advice & Services teams; working closely with all levels of staff to provide assistance and support as required throughout the month. On the job training and development will be given to embed the successful applicant into our award winning team.

Financial Services
- Working within the following teams, tasks as appropriate:
- Accounts Receivable - dealing with bringing income into the Trust via our billing out to customers for general services, pharmacy, overseas visitors and private patients just to name a few.
- Accounts Payable - dealing with invoices received by the Trust, query resolution and statement reconciliations. Also reviewing payments out including payment runs of various types, manual payments and other payments of this nature.
- Technical Team - looking at Trust cash flow and control accounts to learning about management of the balance sheet.
Financial Management
- Ensure that monthly reports of the budgetary position are issued to budget holders by the deadline set.
- Maintain budgets & control accounts each month, clearly identifying recurrent and non-recurrent changes in accordance with agreed timetable.
- Review budgetary information.
- Assist with the monitoring of performance against budget during the year, identify and analyse variances and / or discrepancies.
Discuss budgetary issues with Financial Advisors
Information Collection and Analysis
- Inputs data into relevant spreadsheets
- Provide detailed ad hoc reports and analysis as requested by finance and non-finance colleagues
Information processing
- Organising incoming and outgoing post, referring enquiries to appropriate person if necessary
- Filing of reports and statements
- Ensure that all budgetary information is accurately entered into the General Ledger system
Communication
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other individuals within the Directorate, other officers of the Trust, colleagues from the NHS and officers from other agencies to deliver a quality service focused on achieving a high level of customer satisfaction
- Be a point of contact for enquiries as appropriate, referring where necessary to more senior staff.
