Job summary
Do you want to join the NHS to do a job that makes a difference? To help provide essential pharmaceutical products to local patients and in NHS Trusts across the country, working in a non-patient facing role? Never has there been a better time to join the NHS and this might be the perfect job for you.
We are currently looking for pharmacy assistants to join our team in the pharmacy manufacturing unit (PMU).
The PMU team is a small very friendly team of 12. Our main activity is preparation of over-labelled and repackaged tablets, capsules, injectables and liquids in order to provide Trusts with ready to dispense products which enable speedy discharge of patients and reduces waste. Some of these products are prepared in cleanrooms which require strict levels of hygiene and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice.
You will have good dexterity to use equipment such as weighing scales and measures, handle syringes and needles for accurate measurements of medicines and injections.
Main duties of the job
In the PMU, our assistant technical officers are trained in classical manufacture which is the preparation of pharmaceutical products from raw ingredients, over-labelling and re-packaging of tablets, re-packaging of bulk liquid pharmaceutical products, assembly of resuscitation boxes, assembly and packaging of products for distribution to customers and providing support with core duties in our aseptic unit.
There are essential procedures to be followed and adhered to for the range of processes.
There is a comprehensive training program in place to train and support individuals in becoming competent in each of these roles. You will also be trained on cleanroom behaviour (no singing unfortunately), strict hygiene requirements and strict gowning procedures (no makeup - no jewellery). Training takes up to approximately 6 months and involves shadowing a team member as you are trained and assessed on each activity.
About us
We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.
Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.
You'll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you'd never have done. You'll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.
You'll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
