Job summary

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatrics.

This post forms part of the Lancashire teaching hospitals Overseas Registrar Development and Recruitment Program (ORDeR Program).

This is a program which is recognised by the GMC and to which (if required) the trust can sponsor successful candidates to gain their GMC registration through trust sponsorship.

The post holder will be given the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of Paediatrics, with encouragement for personal and professional development over a 2 year plan.

Candidates applying for this post must ensure they are able to commit to being in the UK, ready to start work before the 1st October 2023. Those seeking GMC sponsorship must have completed their language assessment at the point of applying.

Main duties of the job

Summary of clinical duties:

  1. Attending to and managing acute Paediatric cases referred to Paediatric Assessment Unit.
  2. Attending to Paediatric emergencies attending Emergency Department.
  3. Managing Paediatric cases on the Paediatric wards.
  4. Supervising junior doctors' work, reviewing patients they see and giving advice regarding their managements.
  5. Conducting ward rounds, usually with the consultant, but sometimes on their own, on the Paediatric wards.
  6. Provide advanced resuscitation to Paediatric cases when required, coordinating their work with Paediatric consultants, anaesthetists, ED doctors and with consultation with NWTS team.
  7. Second on call duties out of hours for Paediatric emergencies.
  8. Assisting the consultant in communication with parents.
  9. Dealing, under the supervision of the consultant, with child protection issues.
  10. Conducting outpatient clinics alongside the consultant Paediatrician.
  11. Cover for unexpected short term sickness of a colleague.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Completed one year's internship (which can be multi-specialty) or based solely in one specialty.
  • Minimum 3 years postgraduate training courses completed including one of the following: (delete those not relevant) *Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Paediatrics *Diplomate of national Board (DNB) in Paediatrics. *Diploma in Childhealth - DCH paediatrics *Masters degree in Paediatrics (Msc Paediatrics)
  • Engaged in medical practice for three out of the last five years including the most recent 12 months.
  • IELTS - average score 7.5 (min 7 in each subset) or OET (B score)

Desirable

  • Evidence of research and/or publications

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Practical experience in the management of a wide range of Paediatric conditions, and confident in performing practical procedures relevant to Paediatrics

  • Experience in protocol design and instigation of services.
