About us
The Vascular Centre was launched in January 2015, centralising all major arterial services into the Centre based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust with support of the three arterial partner hospitals at Blackpool, Morecambe Bay and Wigan Trusts. The Vascular centre covers a population of approximately 1.5 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
There is a large but well integrated team with 10 vascular surgeons, 7 Vascular Interventional Radiologists and a core of approximately 15 consultant anaesthetists doing regular sessions. The workload of the anaesthetists involves Aneurysm surgery both Open and EVAR, Carotid Endarterectomy, Limb revascularisation involving both endovascular and bypass techniques, amputation and renal vascular access.
The Vascular Anaesthetists are also very active in the perioperative period, providing CPEX testing, preop counselling and assessment and a regular involvement in MDT decision making. The team provides separate daily emergency and elective surgery lists for vascular patients and work closely with interventional radiology colleagues. We have modern theatre facilities built in 2014 with a state of the art Hybrid Theatre as well as a recently refurbished IR suite.
