Applicants are invited to apply for a Consultant Radiologist post in a highly diverse, motivated and thriving Radiology Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Following significant investment in our Community Diagnostic centre we are expanding our Consultant Radiologist numbers to support additional work and there are several new posts being created.
We are looking to appoint consultant Radiologists with the following subspecialist interests:
- Chest Radiology including Cardia imaging.
- 2 x GI/GU Radiologist, interest in non-vascular intervention is welcomed.
- MSK Radiologist.
- Paediatric Radiologist.
The successful candidate will support general radiology, assist in the smooth running of the Directorate and work with colleagues in the provision of an effective and efficient service. The post will be based at Chorley and Preston Hospital sites as well as sessions at the Community Diagnostic centre depending on subspecialty interest.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include all those duties normally expected of a radiologist in a similar sized Radiology department in the United Kingdom. The majority of the appointee's time will be spent on clinical duties. In addition, the appointee will be expected to take part in the formal teaching and on-going audit programmes within the directorate as well as a full range of management duties commensurate with this role.
The candidate should have completed the radiology training (be within 6 months of CCT or have obtained CESR) and should have sufficient skills to be able to independently report MRI, CT, and US examinations within their areas of subspecialty expertise.

These posts are for 10 PAs full time [with flexibility for part time working also considered] which will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate depending on the departmental needs and subspecialist interest of the successful applicants.
Based on a 10PA job plan, consultants are expected to work productively for 42 weeks a year and will be required to undertake annual appraisal and job planning within their allocated contracted SPA time. (1.5 SPA per week).
Any SPA activity over 1.5 will be in line with the trust SPA tariff and will be reviewed as part of the annual job planning process.
The post holder will be asked to participate in the general radiology On call rota. 0.5 PA has been allocated for this in the job-plan. There is currently a registrar on-call rota at 1 in 9 frequency. (This is subject to change)
The successful applicant should be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists, or equivalent.
The trust accepts that the primary means of on-call provision is via tele radiology. The Trust provides a Home reporting station.
MEDICA currently provide a Nighthawk service from 9pm to 9:00am - 7 days a week.
