Job summary
Working within a supportive and educationally-focussed environment, the post-holder will provide registrar-level experience in a teaching hospital with all the main medical sub-specialities.
This role would particularly suit doctors who have completed CMT and also individuals with equivalent experience who are looking to progress to speciality training and also for those looking to go down the non-consultant career grade or SAS route.
Since significant proportion of acute medical take is currently in Emergency department, Medical on call teams are mostly based in ED. Acute Medical team provides in reach into ED as well and performs post-take ward rounds and clinical reviews on Day2 medical patients.
The senior clinical fellow will be an integral part of the acute medical workforce involved in the clinical reviews of Day 2 and Day 3 patients. The post is for 12 months and will provide excellent training in the management of the common and important presentation normally seen in acute medical setting and give insight into the management of acute ill patients. The post would be an excellent preparation for specialist training post.
The post holder will rotate in different clinical areas of Acute Medicine including MAU, ED, SDEC and AAU to give a wide range of clinical experience in Acute Medicine.
This will be a 9am-5pm job with one long day (4 hours) per week. The work pattern is flexible. The successful candidate will undertake the following roles:

- Clinical reviews of Day 2/3 Medicine referred patients.
- Clinical decision making around discharges.
- Ensuring ward jobs are carried out as planned on the post take ward rounds by consultants.
- Clinical review of sick patients and stabilise and escalate as appropriate.
- Provide senior support to junior medical team members
- Perform basic medical procedures as required.
There will be adequate support from the consultant for advice and guidance.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in continuous improvement projects, education and audit. There are weekly teachings in MAU and active participation of all clinical fellows is encouraged in them.
