Senior Healthcare Assistant - Ophthalmology

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced Healthcare Assistant who is enthusiastic and highly motivated to join our skilled and dynamic Ophthalmic team. The successful candidate will be expected to complete core specialty training as part of their role and must be committed to completion of this within the required time frames.

The successful candidate will be based in Chorley at Lancashire Eye Centre, which is our new state of the art facility.

GCSE's in Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent) and an NVQ in Health at Level 2 (or equivalent) is essential in order to apply for this role.

Main duties of the job

We require the individual to be forward thinking, well organised with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change. In addition to development of clinical skills, candidates must be committed to completing the required academic courses that form part of this role.As well as a wide range of clinical responsibilities you will also assist in preparing patient notes for their surgery and giving general administrative support. We are looking for a candidate with a good set of interpersonal skills who will fit well into our existing team.

  • Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars
  • Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies.
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
