Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Neurology at Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This post provides the opportunity to work at a registrar level at the regional neurosciences centre, based at Royal Preston Hospital. The post provides unparalleled opportunities for personal and professional development, through participation in education, audit and research.

This is a great opportunity to balance your teaching responsibilities with a well-supported clinical role. Contract of employment will be for fixed term of 6 months in the first instance, renewable by agreement for up to 12 months.

Main duties of the job

The duties of this post may be summarised as:

  • To work with the neurology education lead to deliver high quality neurology education to medical students from University of Manchester, based at Royal Preston Hospital.
  • Undertake up to three outpatient clinics a week at Royal Preston Hospital and peripheral hospitals, under consultant supervision.
  • Management of inpatients in the regional neurology ward based at Royal Preston Hospital.

The post-holder will be expected to participate in the neurology registrar on-call rota. The post will enable the post holder to gain experience in clinical neurology in a supportive environment.

Significant clinical learning opportunities are available, with weekly clinical and academic meetings, case presentations and frequent clinical teaching. Although this is not a formal training post, the post holder will be allocated an educational supervisor.

The Neurosciences Centre, based at The Royal Preston Hospital, comprises both Neurosurgery and Medical Neurosciences (Neurology, Neurophysiology, Neuroradiology, including interventional Neuroradiology, Neuropathology and Neurorehabilitation). The population served by the Neurosciences Centre is approximately. 1.5 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
