The posts have been newly created following significant investment by the Trust in the Radiotherapy Physics section. This investment will, over the coming years, significantly increase the Radiotherapy Physics multi-disciplinary workforce. The team currently comprises of 15 clinical scientists, 9 dosimetrists, 8 engineers and a quality manager.

Main duties of the job

The primary focus of this role will be to support safe, accurate and efficient treatment planning of external beam radiotherapy and provide support for mould room activities, ensuring a high standard of patient care. The post holder will also develop expertise and support the department as a radiotherapy dosimetrist in the other areas dependent on the needs of the service, for example quality control of linear accelerators. The post holder will support development and implementation of evidence-based practice including introduction of clinical trials and new planning techniques.

About us

Rosemere Cancer Centre is on the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Royal Preston Hospital site and provides an external beam radiotherapy service for the adult population of Lancashire and South Cumbria (1.6 Million population). The centre has:

    • Seven clinical Elekta linacs, all with CBCT, and many with flattening filter free treatment capability and equipped with Response ABC system
    • Two dedicated Philips Big Bore CT scanners with full IV contrast facilities and 4D capability
    • MOSAIQ and SYNERGISTIQ(TM)

  • Virtual simulation and treatment planning is conducted on Pinnacle throughout the department. Some treatment planning is also being carried out on Raystation.
  • Rosemere is currently commissioned to provide SABR for lung tumours and non-spine/lymph node oligometasteses in addition to intracranial SRS.
  • Exciting developments include:
    • Commissioning and clinical implementation of Vision RT surface guided technology.
    • Commissioning of SABR for spinal, liver and adrenal metastases.
    • Expanding the clinical use of RayStation.
    • Evaluation of PerFraction for independent dose check of treatment plans
    • Making widespread use of QATrack to efficiently record and trend quality control check results
